Let There Be...An Earth Day Reflection (pt.2)

Thanks for following along!  Today we continue our reflections on God's creations starting with day five.  If you missed days 1-4 check out Let There Be...An Earth Day Reflection (pt.1).  (Art from our All Things Great & Small Collection)

Day 5 - Birds and Fish

And God said, ‘Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.’” (Genesis 1:20)

On Creation Day 2, God made the sky and water. On Day 5, He made the birds and fish to fly and swim in them. When a bird makes a nest, sings a morning song, or flies high in the sky, it’s doing what God created it to do. When a dolphin leaps out of the water, plays with a friend or hunts fish for dinner, it’s doing what God created it to do. What did God create you to do?

Day 6 - Animals and Man

God said, “‘Let the earth bring forth living creatures’…and God saw that it was good. Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness….’ God blessed them said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; and have dominion over...every living thing....’” (Genesis 1:24-28)

On Day 6, God made land animals the way He made everything else. But then, He did something very different. He personally, lovingly made us in His own image, like Him. Then, He blessed us, something He didn’t do to any other creatures He made. And finally, He told us to take responsibility for the Earth and to fill it with our families.

The Earth is a treasure that God put into our hands. Will we protect it, keep it clean and beautiful? Will we waste its resources or use only what we need? Will we share the world peacefully with others? Will we use its bounty to do good: to feed the hungry, house the homeless, give clean water to the thirsty? Will we help the human family grow and fill the world in peace?

When God made you, He personally drew an image, a picture of Himself. He gave you an amazing world to care for. He gave you a soul that will live forever, a mind to think with and know Him, a heart to love Him and freedom to make good choices. What will your choices be?

Day 7 - God Rested

“God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.” (Genesis 1:31)

“God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation.” (Genesis 2:3)

Before God made you, the Earth was good. But after He made you, it became VERY good! After God made people, He rested. We’re made in God’s image, so we rest every 7 days, too. On Sunday, we thank God and worship Him together at church. This is a great day to relax and just enjoy everything: our God, our family, our friends, our world, and notice that it’s VERY good. How will you celebrate the goodness of God’s creation this Sunday?
